Mike Valenti is a popular Detroit sports talk host who is known to be controversial and pulls no punches. Valenti has confirmed on his talk show that the Detroit lions wanted him fired and that any new pact or deal would have to included his firing.

The Detroit Lions declined to comment after announcing the end of the twelve year relationship with WXYT-FM (97.1) and the move to WJR-AM (760).

Mike Valenti confirms this is not a first time run in with the team, he says complaints about him have been going on for years and that they have been responsible for his not appearing on a gameday morning show and on local television.

Valenti also claims that Lions senior vice president of communications Bill Keenist tried to call him "on a segment by segment basis during his show" to register complaints about the things he said.

The Detroit Lions were asked to respond to the claims by Mike Valenti and his agent Mort Eisner and well they declined, but did say WJR-AM (760) simply won the bid and it was a financial move.

CBS Detroit Vice President and market manager Debbie Kenyon released a statement saying the sticking point in negotiations with the Detroit Lions was the station's "refusal to be censored in talking about the team and making honest assessments on the air about the team."
